Direbrook Lore

Long ago humans sought to destroy magic as they led witches, warlocks and other anatomical conduits up rickety old steps towards the hanging rope to cut them off from the earth entirely. The humans would press the magical beings down into the cool depths of rivers, testing to see if they would rise again. Humans have always been this way. Ready to tear asunder that which they don’t understand and make a spectacle of their callous and cruel deeds.

Marked as followers of evil, the witches decided that they had had enough of watching their loved ones hung and drowned because of the facade of the Holy Empire. So, those with magic pledged their ties to the Aether, completing rituals upon sacred ground that opened portals to their new home.

Enriched with magic, this land greeted the lost souls with an abundance of life and power and only asked for one thing: A conduit from each house. One body to renew its power and strength. One body for every generation.

This new land demanded the attention of a conduit in order to safely traverse the dangerous and ever-changing landscape. There are many who could learn, but Aether Walkers were born for such a task as they were able to weave together the Aether and breathe change into the elements.

The Direbrook house was originally from Germany, the family was headed by a bullheaded man named Ambros Maxixilian and the moment The Direbrook family arrived in Majik, Ambros had been pulled into the Aether.

The house waited for him to return for a fortnight and when he stepped through the gate there was a tall, slender, horned and graceful dæmon companion for direbrook to work with as a conduit.

With his Dæmon companion, Ambros flattened the land around them, raised buildings and set cobblestone down for the new Town of Direbrook, a place where lost souls could find comfort and rest. Once built, he raised it up from the ground to traverse the skies.

There are many realms in the known universe, Mortal Realm, Fae Realm, Daemon Realm, and many more. The Realm of Majik is old and ever changing and is known to be the home of Echidna, the Mother of Monsters. This chaotic land bred the strange and wicked, and could be blamed for many of the viruses that afflict humans such as vampirism or lycanthropy. However, the realms native creatures range from Basilisks, Gargoyles, Dragons, Chimeras, Unicorns, and Minotaurs to name a few. They once roamed the land with only their natural order to hinder them.

The realm of Majik that was once known as the birthplace of monsters, was now inhabited by the mutated humans categorized as Witches. Once the witches arrived in the realm and settled, the monsters began being run out of their homes and habitats, they rebelled against the settlers which resulted in a war that the witches won by joining together to create the Majik Council.

Thirteen is a powerful number and so thirteen houses were chosen to join together in a bond that boosted their magic exponentially, enough to turn the tide in the war. The Majik council would eventually govern over the all witches. The Dæmons contracted and connected to each of the thirteen and flattened the monster armies; the monsters were banished from where the witches had erected towns.

Many monsters left to find a home in another realm, some stayed in areas that hadn’t been defiled by the witches. For almost a century these monsters have been kept from interacting with witches in a positive way.

Now that Lorraine Direbrook has taken over as the leader of the town of Direbrook, she has invited the monsters into her domain in the form of a prom. This move has been scrutinized by the Majik Council of witches and she has been warned to cancel or suffer the consequences. She has refused to cancel and with this one party makes a statement that could result in a major backlash from the most powerful witches in the realm. Which Lorraine welcomes with open arms.
